Air BnB Restrictions Due to COVID-19

Air BnB Restrictions Due to COVID-19

As we are all still adjusting to quarantine, travel restrictions and self-isolation, many of us are wondering what the recent Air Bnb restrictions due to COVID-19 are and if they will be affecting any of your future travel plans.

What Are the Restrictions?

As of now, many shore towns in Southern New Jersey have put short term rental bans into effect to try and stop the spread of the virus. This includes all 16 municipalities in Cape May County like  Ocean City, Sea Isle City and Cape May. Other towns like Ventnor, Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic City have also put restrictions into place. Most bans are for rentals shorter than 30 days in length.

Shore towns have also closed access to beaches and boardwalks. The walkway across Ocean City’s 9th street bridge is also closed to pedestrians, runners and bikers.

Other local businesses such as retail stores and restaurants are online or take out orders only.

Will my Summer Vacation be Affected?

It’s too soon to tell what the summer will look like at the Jersey Shore. As we all continue to social distance, hopefully, the summer will be just the way we all know and love.

Air BnB has put new policies into place for travelers who have been affected or may eventually be affected by COVID - 19.  The policy applies to reservations where the host or the guest has to cancel due to government restrictions, highly impacted areas, health care workers who have been called into work as well as anyone diagnosed with the virus.

Bookings can be changed or canceled free of charge under their extenuating circumstances policy.

Final Thoughts

With summer still a couple months away, we could see restrictions start to lift and short term rentals return to normal. But if you are looking to ride out this storm at the shore, you are out of luck for now.
